Minimum Qualifications

    • Must be currently enrolled, full-time student at UT Dallas
    • Must have a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative grade point average
    • Must be able to demonstrate written and interpersonal communication skills
    • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Ability to lift/carry/lower, push and pull frequently 15-45 lbs. May occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions.
    • Work authorization in the United States is required

Our positions include:

Diversity Peer Educator+

The Peer Educator is responsible for creating and planning educational diversity workshops & programs on diversity issues that are student focused. The peer educator will work closely with Coordinator of Diversity Education. In addition, the peer educator will demonstrate an interest, passion, commitment, and willingness to learn about diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency. The peer educator must possess a desire to educate their peers on diversity issues, a great attitude, and excellent presentation skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to work with diverse population
  • Professionalism, dependability, and respect for others

  • Data tracking and data entry

Duties include:

  • Create, plan, and attend diversity education programs
  • Assist and lead diversity education presentations, workshops, and activities (public speaking)
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of diversity education programs
  • Contact and create connections with student organizations
  • Serve as guide and mentor for other students
  • Other duties assigned

Qualifications:
  • Must be a full-time student (12 hours undergraduate; 9 hours graduate) at the time of application and throughout tenure
  • Maximum number of credit hours per semester is 15; Additional hours must have prior approval from the coordinator
  • Be a currently enrolled, UT Dallas student who has completed at least UTD 30 hours (sophomore at least)
  • A cumulative 2.75 GPA at the time of the application and throughout the job position
  • All applicants must be eligible for employment in the United States
  • All applicants must submit information for a background check
  • Agree to a full academic year commitment (earliest graduation date May 2021)
  • Work 15 office hours per week including some nights and weekends
Graphic Design & Marketing Assistant+

The Graphic Design & Marketing Assistant is a talented student who excels in graphic design and photography. The position will aid the Assistant Director of Programs & Marketing in building & maintaining the brand of the Multicultural Center. Responsibilities in this role will vary greatly, giving the student employee chance to be creative in tasks such as: creating logos, brochures, advertisements, apparel, promotional items, presentations, and graphics for the web, our magazine, and social media. This position will also be responsible for taking photos and editing them.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Exceptional decision making skills and autonomy
  • Exceptional written and communication skills
  • Able to work under tight deadlines and in a fast paced environment
  • Strong sense of curiosity and creativity
  • Advanced knowledge and proven application of Adobe Creative Cloud (CC), Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Understanding of typography and design principles
  • Advanced Photography skills

Duties include:

  • Create print and digital media to advertise Multicultural Center programs, events, initiatives and services
  • Aid in the creation of marketing & advertising plans for Multicultural Center initiatives
  • Assist with maintaining the Multicultural Center website
  • Aid in managing Multicultural Center social media sites
  • Work 15 office hours per week including some nights and weekends
  • Attend weekly staff meeting and bi-weekly supervisor meeting
  • Attend Safe Zone & Comet Pride Customer Service Trainings & Circles Conference

Multicultural Peer Advocate+

The Multicultural Peer Advocates (MPAs) are responsible for participating in the planning, coordinating, and implementation of the Multicultural Center’s cultural celebrations. These students provide peer advising, general office assistance, and assistance in recruitment of minority students. They also participate in Welcome Week programming, implement social media strategy and are knowledgeable of UTD policies, rules and regulations.

Duties include:

  • Create, plan & implement cultural events for the UT Dallas campus
  • Research history & culture in order to create cultural programs & events
  • Represent and promote the Multicultural Center to students and the entire campus community
  • Serve as a role model for UT Dallas students, assist students with academic success, personal and social issues
  • Collaborate with student organizations & student leaders to create cultural events
  • Refer students to appropriate offices and resources on campus as needed
  • Work 15 office hours per week including some nights and weekends
  • Promote department events and initiatives
  • Represent the Multicultural Center At University-wide functions (Welcome Week, Freshmen Move-In, Scholars Weekend. Homecoming)
  • Serve as a liaison to various cultural student organizations
  • Attend Safe Zone & Comet Pride Customer Service Trainings & Leaders Meet Conference
  • Attend NACA Huge Leadership Weekend & an additional diversity related conference during the academic year

Office Assistant+

Office Assistants are the first employees that guests see when entering the Multicultural Center. These students aid the day to day operations of the Multicultural Center.

Duties include:

  • promoting events & celebrations sponsored by the Multicultural Center
  • answering general questions about the Multicultural Center and UT Dallas
  • answering the main telephone line and routing calls or taking messages
  • picking up and distributing mail
  • delivering and picking up documents around campus, as needed
  • keeping the supply room stocked and organized—alerting the Administrative Assistant when depleted
  • keeping the Office Assistant desk counter area neat & organized
  • making sure the kitchen area is neat and clean, including wiping the inside of the microwave whenever necessary
  • ensuring the TV Lounge, Study Room and Computer Room are neat and clean
  • walking around the center throughout the day & checking to see if students have left debris. If they have, straightening the rooms;
  • monitoring the noise level of the Study Room. If students are speaking loudly enough to disturb those who are trying to study, asking them to lower the level or go into the TV Lounge
  • reminding students that we don’t allow food in the Computer Lab
  • tallying and recording visitor numbers and breakdown (once per month)
  • submitting time online in Time & Labor DAILY
  • participating in mandatory training in May 18-22, 2020 and periodically as needed
  • providing office support including typing, data entry, scanning, copying, faxing, filing, preparing or hanging flyers or bulletin boards
  • helping the Administrative Assistant as directed

Student Success Assistant+

The Student Success Assistants are responsible for supporting the development, coordination, and implementation of the Multicultural Center’s retention-focused programs for traditionally underrepresented minority students at UT-Dallas. These student employees will also contribute to the implementation of other Multicultural Center programming, including diversity-focused-events and signature events. *Please note that this position requires applicant(s) be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident or have completed undergraduate studies at a university in the United States.*

Duties include:

  • Assist with the planning & implementation of the MC’s VOICES, Leader’s Forum, and Hispanic Leadership Banquet
  • Assist with the program development, promotion, and implementation of Operation I Am: Black Student Leadership Weekend and MC Leaders’ Retreat
  • Work with assigned student organizations to plan and execute the End-of-Year banquets and celebrations
  • Assist in the coordination of any MC Student Leadership conference travel by designated student organizations
  • Serve as a student liaison to designated student organizations
  • Represent the Multicultural Center in university recruitment and outreach efforts
  • Other tasks as assigned

Video Production & Marketing Assistant+

The Video Production & Marketing Assistant reports to the Assistant Director of Programming & Marketing and works closely with various members of the Multicultural Center team. This student employee would participate in various meetings, workshops, critiques, and brainstorming sessions as necessary. Projects produced by this employee include but are not limited to: Event advertisement, Promotional Videos, trailers, Testimonial Videos, Videos for Social Media, etc.

The Video Production & Marketing Assistant is expected to determine creative and effective marketing solutions by thinking big, taking risks, and collaborating to develop strategies that build awareness, engagement, and action from target audiences.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Films events and programs for documentation purposes.
  • Plans, films, and edits videos to advertise various promotions and initiatives. Works with team members to storyboard ideas, sets up shoots, films scenes, edits, and communicates with the team throughout the process to ensure goals are met with the video project.
  • Determines what camera equipment is necessary and obtains equipment
  • Transports, sets up, and operates various production equipment including cameras, audio and video recorders, lighting equipment, props, and microphones for location and studio production
  • Operates and maintains proper levels and calibration of cameras, audio and video recorders, and other production equipment
  • Maintains the Multicultural Center YouTube Channel

Duties include:

  • Basic understanding of working with DSLR and Camcorder equipment
  • Professionalism, dependability, and respect for others
  • Exceptional decision making skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Advanced Experience editing video with Final Cut X and/or Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Photoshop; knowledge of Adobe After Effects is a plus
